AGENDA:

1. Poetry Analysis- Timed Essay and Meta-Cognition
  • Think, pair, share (5 min): Consider the elements of poetic analysis you have practiced writing with your group and analyzed in the exemplar essays. What specific strategies do you understand when analyzing a poem(s)? What poetic elements can you analyze in ALL poems?
  • Timed Essay (45 min)
    • Teacher will hand out prompt
      • Students must have clear desk, clean binder paper only! Absolutely no phones etc.
    • 2 minutes to silently analyze on your own
    • 2 minutes to discuss with a partner near you
    • Timed Essay- No more discussion- 40 minutes of SILENT and INDIVIDUAL writing. No restroom until after completed essay and meta-cognition.Teacher should announce time at 20 minutes, then 10 minutes left. Pencils down at 40 minutes.

  • Meta-Cognition- complete at end of essay- (25 MIN)
    • Teacher will hand out Exemplar Essay and Poetry Practice Meta-reflection: Revise a Timed Essay
    • Silently answer questions 1-7 at the end of your timed essay following all directions (20 min)
    • Group: Discuss exemplar essay with your group and what it does well- add to your annotations
    • Complete step #8 for HW due on Monday 3/5
    • Original, stamped essay must be submitted with revision...

2. CSE Poetic Video Contest (last 20 min before ATP)
  • Groups will meet to work on their poems and ideas for their video project
